The Master of Arts in Ministry (MAM) and the Master of Theological Studies for the New Evangelization (MTS), are open to all laypersons, permanent deacons, and professed religious. The degree programs are not exclusive to those who studied ministry, theology or biblical studies for their undergraduate degree.
Admissions Process
- Begin an online application here. Select "Lay Formation Application" from the dropdown menu.
- Check your email for a message from AdmissionsTI@sjs.edu containing your login credentials for our Student Information System (SIS). Please be sure to check all folders.
- Log in to our SIS to complete your application by clicking on “Application Status.”
- Upload Essay and Certificate of Sacramental Marriage (if applicable).
- Submit three recommendations (one of which must be from your pastor, a priest, or vowed religious).*
- Submit all previous undergraduate and graduate transcripts.*
- Schedule an admissions interview with the Director of the Theological Institute here.
- An application fee of $80.00 may be mailed to the above address or submitted online through the SIS by clicking on “Financial” and then “Make a Payment.”

M.A.M. essay prompt: What has been the professional and personal development that motivates you to apply to this Master of Arts in Ministry educational and formational program at Saint John's Seminary? Looking ahead to your successful completion of this degree, what are your future hopes and expectations? How will this degree assist you in attaining your goals?
M.T.S. essay prompt: How would you describe your intellectual and spiritual autobiography, and why does it lead you to desire to pursue the Master of Theological Studies degree at Saint John's Seminary? What theological areas do you wish to understand better through this degree? How would you describe your commitment to the Catholic Church? What evangelical projects motivate you?
The final admissions decision is made by the Seminary Admissions Board.
Students are typically admitted throughout the year for the fall, spring, or summer sessions. Auditors and non-degree students are welcome to register for classes as long as space is available.
