Course description:
In addition to a careful reading of the Gospel of John and the letters, we will examine structure, content, and the main themes (the sources underlying the Johannine writings, religious feasts, literary features, Christology, ecclesiology, etc.) by way of an exegetical and narrative analysis of the text with attention to current discussion in the scholarly literature. Finally, this course also aims to develop the student’s ability to use the Gospel and the letters to integrate the Johannine perspective meaningfully into preaching, teaching, and theological reflection.
