Saint John's
Seminary

Include a prayer for vocations in your parish bulletin and on your parish website, and in your own routine of prayer. Include vocations to the priesthood, the permanent diaconate and for religious orders of women. Pray, too, that those who have not discerned a call to the priesthood or religious life, consider continuing their formal religious education in order to become highly qualified members of the laity, ready to serve in parishes, schools, hospital and any setting where the faith draws the faithful.
Saint John’s Seminary has grown, and so our need for highly qualified faculty and staff has grown, as has our need for improving our living space and our technology offerings. For the past three academic years we have seen steady growth in our numbers, both among candidates for priestly ordination and our lay formation programs, and we are projected to grow again next year. Specifically, we will need to renovate or expand living space for seminarians, workspace and continue to expand our multimedia classroom offerings (“Smart Classrooms”). Please consider a donation of any amount to support our work, and the ministry of the future for parishes all over New England.
Individual gifts are very much appreciated. These can be made with a credit card through our online giving form, sent by check to the seminary, or through a gift of stock, arranged through your financial institution. Your gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal of the Archdiocese of Boston can be designated for the benefit of Saint John’s Seminary, and you and your parish receive full credit for the donation as an Appeal gift.
Donations to the Certificate Programs of St. John’s Seminary may be made here.
Parishes are the primary beneficiaries of Saint John’s work, through both priestly formation and lay formation programs. Parishes can “give back” by supporting the seminary. Currently we have several parishes who support us by holding a once-yearly uncomplicated event and sending the proceeds to the seminary. If every weekly Mass going Catholic in the Archdiocese of Boston gave $10 per year to Saint John’s, we would have $2,500,000.00 in donations, or enough to pay for heat, electricity, water/sewer, maintenance and three meals per day for 100 men for the entire academic year. We know that not every single Catholic is going to be able to do this, but parishes can help in the following ways:
Set as a target donation, e.g., $20 per active parishioner, to be gathered into one gift from the parish once per year; or
Hold a spaghetti supper, pancake breakfast or golf outing, and add a raffle. The parishioners will have fun, the seminary will receive much needed support, and we will all be more aware of how we depend on one another to build up the faith. Two of us will even come out and help you put on your event!
